6. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CARGO
6.1 Nickel Ore in bags
Metal ores and their concentrates have considerable part in total volume of global trade. Main feature of ore and ore concentrate, determining stowage requirements is big stowage factor and small loading capacity. Wrong stowage can lead to excessive stability and affect ship s strength. During loading of such cargo it is required to comply to Rules of stowage, storage and sea carriage of ore strictly. In accordance with the Rules to such carriage are permitted only vessels with special strong construction, specially adapted for safe transportation of such cargo.
Some kinds of ore let out exhalations, which are harmful for personnel, others have ability to self-heating. So ventilation of cargo holds is recommended. Some kinds of ore are able to fluidize.of cargo structure during adverse weather leads to its movement in cargo hold, that affects ship s seaworthiness negatively. So while carrying ore care attention should be paid to humidity, in which change of cargo structure can occur.should be protected from dust-forming cargoes such as coal, cement and so on. Mixing of ores of different sort is not permitted. Contamination can lead to metallurgical qualities deterioration.loading of ore special attention should be paid to its stowage in cargo holds, cargo plan should be strictly followed to avoid excessive vessel s stability, big bending moments and cargo movement.
6.2 Glass sheets in boxes
Sheet glass requires extremely careful treatment during cargo handling and stowage. It is placed in boxes, which to be put in upright position transversely a ship. Boxes with glass sheets should be put on the event and firm platform. Loading of boxes with glass sheets over the cargoes which can settle during the voyage, causing the slanting of a box and inevitable breaking of glass is not allowed.boxes with glass sheets must be stowed so that to eliminate possibility of shifting while vessel rolling.cargo operations use of cargo nets, slings and gripping devices is forbidden. Glass must be handled on cargo platform or cargo parachute with lateral wall or stanchions only. br/>
6.3 Rubber in stacks
The Natural rubber is carried in stacks, boxes, bags and in blocks without packing.Plates are pressed from sheet of the rubber brown (smoked sheet) or light-brown colour (crepe). The colour indicates the way of the drying of coagulated rubber plant juice. Even well smoked and dried natural rubber can be easily spoiled by improper storage. When ...
