Однією з найважливіших функцій пісень на уроці ми вважаємо введення і закріплення граматичного матеріалу. З одного боку граматичний матеріал в більшості випадків викликає складнощі у дітей. І пов'язано це з відмінностями в граматичній структурі рідної та іноземної мов. Монотонне виконання вправ не завжди дає позитивний результат, а пісня - це і багаторазове повторення граматичного матеріалу, і зняття емоційної напруги при вивченні граматики.

Завдяки музиці на уроках створюється сприятливий психологічний клімат, знижується психологічне навантаження, підвищується емоційний тонус. Музика допомагає дітям зняти втому, відновлює їх працездатність, виступає як свого роду релаксація в середині або в кінці уроку.
Приблизна послідовність роботи з піснею:
. Коротке вступне слово про пісню (установка на перше сприйняття пісні).
. Перше музичне пред'явлення пісні.
. Перевірка розуміння змісту пісні.
. Фонетична обробка тексту пісні (на початковому етапі навчання іноземної мови доцільно застосувати в цих цілях в основному спосіб імітації).
. Повторне прослуховування пісні, опора на текст.
. Читання тексту пісні з подальшою обробкою звуків та інтонацій, всю роботу рекомендується проводити з опорою на текст пісні.
. Самостійне виконання пісні з використанням фонограми чи акомпанементу.
