1) моральні якості - to lay the butter on, to raise the lid from smth.;
) екзистенція - to hoist the white flag, to hold up one s hands, to lay down (one s ) arms, to lay down one s life, to lay smb s bones, to lay smb. to rest (to sleep), to lay violent hands on oneself/smth., to raise from death/to raise from the dead/to raise to life;
) соціальна сфера - to lay a bet, to lay by the heels, to lay odds, to lay one s heads together, to raise smb. a peg higher, to raise the little finger, to raise a hornets nest about one s ears, to lay pipes;
) емоційно-психічні стани - to lay account for (on, with) smth., to lay hold of smb./smth., to lay smb. (Rolling) in the aisles, to lay smth. to heart, to lift up one s voice, to raise a big stink about smth.;
) трудова діяльність - to lay one s hand to smth., to lay the cornerstone/first stone, to lay the foundation of/for smth.;
