A fatal road accident involving an UN ambulance (Toyota 4-Runner, UN 16523), that delivered medical supply to a hospital in Kailahun, and a stationary civilian unlit truck RENAULT (SLP 2345) parked on road Bo-Kenema (about 20 km to Kenema) took place at 2100 hrs on 24 Nov 2003. The driver of the ambulance (Ramez Khan, 45 years, UN 12456, permit No 12456) received serious injuries and the passenger, a doctor (Peter White, 43 years, UN 12427), was fatally wounded (he later died). span>
The UN Security Officer, Maj David Cook (ID 12327), who investigated the accident, reported that a UNAMSIL truck ZIL-131 (UN 9763) travelling behind the ambulance witnessed the incident and transported the victims to Kenema General Hospital.
One of the UNAMSIL soldiers providing assistance gave his details as: Andrii Shevchenko, ID 12551, Ukrainian Battalion, 4th Company, Hastings.

The soldier indicated that he was travelling to Kailahun District.are requested to assist in obtaining a statement from the soldier and if possible, translating it from Ukrainian into English. p align="justify">. Pertaining to the questions, which were given to me, I, Warrant-Officer Andrii Shevchenko, doctor's assistant, 4th training automobile company, UKRBAT-4, went from Hastings to Kailahun by the UNAMSIL truck ZIL- 131 (plate number 9763) on 24 Nov 2003 to transport metallic safes and food. Sgt Ivan Ivanenko (ID 12557, permit No 12557) was a truck s driver.open road, about 20 km to Kenema, at approximately 20.50, we were passed by a jeep. We could not determine its speed.
